WEG, a major global electric motor manufacturer, took an important step towards becoming one of Turkey’s largest electric motor manufacturers by acquiring Volt Motor in December 2024. This merger strengthened the company’s position in the sector by increasing its power and production capacity in the international market. We heard about WEG’s collaboration with Volt Motor from WEG Turkey marketing director Hüseyin Türk.

Can you tell us about the path WEG has followed since its establishment and how it entered the Turkish market?

WEG was founded in Brazil in 1961. It is one of the leading representatives of the electric motor sector. It currently operates in business lines such as electric motors, reducers, automation, windmills, and solar energy panels. It has more than 66 production factories in 18 countries. It currently employs nearly 50,000 people worldwide. Since 2000, it has achieved strategic growth by purchasing factories in many different countries. One of these countries is Turkey. Our adventure began in 2021. The first activity in Türkiye was the establishment of a motor assembly line in Dilovası. In December 2024, WEG acquired Volt Electric Motors, which was established in 1967, and became a manufacturer. The products produced here are general-purpose motors used in industry and in industry. Our aim is to reduce the use of natural resources in production and to deliver our products to our customers in an efficient and sustainable way.

Can you tell us about your working method in Türkiye?

We currently work intensively through our dealer channels in Türkiye. WEG entered the Turkish market as a manufacturer 2-3 years ago. However, the first commercial transactions started with the dealer network 40 years ago. We make most of our sales in the Marmara region, Istanbul, and the European side. We also sell through our dealers in strategic points such as Bursa, Izmir, Ankara, Kocaeli, and Konya. We deliver our original equipment to manufacturers and factories. As WEG, we have two basic duties in Türkiye. The first of these is to combine the company standards and quality of WEG, which have been continuing since 1961, with the Volt brand, and to offer our customers the quality they are accustomed to by improving the factory standards. Our second assignment is to develop the automation side of the sector. Because although WEG is known as one of the largest electric motor manufacturers worldwide, automation is an area where we need to develop and promote ourselves. For this reason, we are conducting a two-sided brand study. One is our current work with Volt. The other is automation, which is a new area where we need to deepen in light of scientific data.

Do you also conduct automation studies specifically in Türkiye or are they international studies?

WEG Turkey conducts studies within its own organization, and of course we are in constant communication with our dealers, branches and manufacturers in other countries. For example, when there is a request from Japan, we contact an authorized person in the WEG Australia branch. Because the company is present in 5 continents of the world.

What are your plans for 2025?

As for our plans for this year, we aim to improve processes in the production area and offer new options to our customers.

Thank you.
