Siempelkamp Giesserei continues in the scientifically based sustainable industry
Siempelkamp Foundry is taking a decisive step toward climate neutrality: The company has joined the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), thus initiating the process of validating its climate targets. With this commitment, the foundry is not only fulfilling its responsibility for environmental and climate protection, but is also securing its location and the associated jobs in the long term. As one of the largest hand-molding foundries in the world, it is thus setting a clear example for a sustainable future in this energy-intensive industry.
Climate change poses major challenges for companies worldwide. It is particularly essential for energy-intensive sectors such as the foundry industry to focus on sustainable solutions at an early stage. The Science-Based Targets Initiative supports companies in formulating scientifically sound emission reduction targets that are consistent with the Paris Climate Agreement. It was founded in 2015 as a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the WWF. By participating in the SBTi, Siempelkamp Foundry signals its active participation in this transformation and its alignment of its business model with the requirements of a climate-friendly economy.
“With our SBTi commitment, we not only demonstrate our commitment to climate protection, but also strengthen the competitiveness of our company. Customers increasingly expect sustainable production processes – and we take this responsibility seriously. At the same time, by setting this course, we are contributing to the long-term security of our location and jobs,” explains Dr. Georg Geier, Managing Director of Siempelkamp Foundry.
The decision to participate in SBTi underscores the company’s innovative strength and its pioneering role in the industry. The foundry not only aims to reduce its own emissions, but also to contribute to the sustainable transformation of the entire industry.
With the commitment made in March, Siempelkamp Foundry has completed the first phase of this process. The next step is the scientific review of the climate targets by the SBTi. This includes a detailed analysis of the greenhouse gas footprint and the validation of the emissions reduction action plan.
With this commitment, Siempelkamp Foundry is sending a strong message: climate protection and industrial production are compatible – and companies that address the challenges of the future early on secure decisive advantages in a changing market.
