Prontotour Brings the Travel Culture of the 1980s Back to Life with a Nostalgic Cappadocia Tour

Prontotour is launching the Nostalgic Cappadocia Bus Tour, bringing a distinctive experience to its domestic cultural tour programme. The project combines Cappadocia’s natural and cultural heritage with the bus journeys, period music, traditional refreshments and almost-forgotten travel rituals of the 1980s.

There was a time when intercity bus journeys were more than simply a way of travelling from one place to another. Conductor announcements, cardboard luggage tickets, cups of tea during rest stops, songs playing on the radio and landscapes passing by the window were all inseparable parts of the experience. With its new project, Prontotour is preparing to revive this travel culture amid Cappadocia’s unique scenery.

The Journey Begins Before Passengers Board the Bus

Developed in line with Prontotour’s principle of providing high-quality holidays at accessible prices, the Nostalgic Cappadocia Bus Tour has been designed in every detail to reflect the spirit of the 1980s.

Drivers wearing the classic shirts of the period will welcome passengers, while guides dressed in 1980s-inspired clothing will accompany them throughout the journey. Traditional-style luggage tickets, similar to those once used by intercity bus companies, will be issued when bags are handed over.

Participants will also receive a newspaper clipping published in the year the bus first entered service, corresponding to the day and month of the tour. In this way, the journey will become not only a geographical trip but also an exploration of the past.

Songs from Cassette Tapes and Hot Tea at Rest Stops

From the music and announcements inside the bus to the refreshments and travel souvenirs, every element has been designed to recreate the atmosphere of the period. Guests will be offered nostalgic treats reminiscent of childhood, while songs that defined the 1980s will accompany the journey.

At rest stops, passengers will once again hear the once-familiar announcement, “Tea is on the company,” before being served complimentary tea. Photographs taken with a Polaroid camera during the journey will be printed immediately and presented to guests free of charge. Tangible travel memories will therefore replace images that might otherwise be lost among countless digital files.

During the tour, guests will explore Cappadocia’s valleys, fairy chimneys and cultural heritage while also experiencing the intercity travel culture of the past.
