System Architecture and Operating Principles

The ROBA® topstop® safety brake operates on a fail-safe principle, engaging automatically when de-energized. This design ensures load retention during power interruptions or emergency stop conditions, preventing uncontrolled axis movement. The brake units are positioned between motor and output, enabling retrofit installation in existing systems.

The mechanical design addresses industrial environment requirements through sealed interfaces utilizing O-ring gaskets for dust and moisture protection. Standard configurations achieve IP66 ingress protection rating. Adaptable flange dimensions facilitate integration with various drive configurations. The system maintains load security even when drives are dismounted, supporting maintenance and transport operations.

Monitoring Technology

The ROBA® brake-checker® module provides brake condition monitoring without additional sensors. Integration with the ROBA® gateway module enables network connectivity for data transmission to remote maintenance systems. The architecture facilitates predictive maintenance approaches through continuous monitoring data availability.

Design Validation and Standards Compliance

mayr® provides engineering support through a validation tool incorporating B10d safety characteristic values for system dimensioning per DIN EN ISO 13849-1 requirements. The structured checklist documents compliance with fundamental safety principles and enables standardized brake assessment procedures.

The ROBA® topstop® has received TÜV certification as a “well-tried component” under category 1 classification.
