TEIMAS is one of the leading companies in Europe, creating innovative and efficient technological solutions for waste management and the circular economy for the entities that are part of the waste value chain: waste producers, transporters and waste management companies. The team is specialised in the documentation and regulations related to waste management and waste shipment. This allows us to understand the operations of producers and managers (the entire chain) to better meet the needs of management, processes and reporting.

TEIMAS takes place in WindEurope annual event and Cristina Vázquez, company CEO answered Gazete Makine’s questions in this very exclusive interview.

Can you tell briefly about TEIMAS?

TEIMAS was founded in 2008 and we are a company specialised in software for the waste value chain and the drive for the circular economy. Our goal is to help companies move towards more sustainable business models through our digital solutions.

Among them is Zero, a cloud-based management platform for large companies that produce waste in their daily activities. With this technological solution, they can ensure compliance with current regulations and speed up the preparation of inspections, audits and sustainability reports. Grupo Damm and Red Eléctrica Española, among others, are some of the 30 large corporations that use it.

How do do you position TEIMAS in European market?

In Spain we are positioned as a leading company in technological solutions for waste management and the circular economy. Our client portfolio includes large multinationals from various sectors such as manufacturing, food, energy, oil and gas, and telecommunications. In less than two years we have doubled our workforce and we are steadily moving forward with an international expansion project. This strategic expansion aims to open up new markets and strengthen our position in the European market.

How is the situation of Spain in pursuit of Net-Zero targets?

Spain is making progress towards climate neutrality and net emission reductions, but greater business involvement and a continued push for sustainable technologies along with regulatory policies are required to successfully achieve these ambitious targets.

Despite current efforts, such as the reduction of CO2 emissions and the development of renewable energy, we are far from reaching the target of 55% net greenhouse gas emission reductions by 2030. Achieving this target implies a major challenge that requires significant capital investments in green technologies and processes, equivalent to around 6.2% of the Spanish GDP per year.

At TEIMAS we address the challenge of decarbonisation and drive the transition to climate neutrality through Zero. This software solution helps to improve information flows between companies and subcontractors, increase productivity by eliminating manual tasks through automation, and facilitates the measurement, data collection and graphic visualisation of the information on the waste generated. In short, it provides control, improves regulatory compliance and favours strategic decision-making in sustainability.

What are the challenges in waste management sphere and what does TEIMAS bring against these challenges?

In the field of waste management, there are several challenges, including the need to continue to innovate solutions that cover the entire waste value chain and adapt to the environmental regulations of each region. Also in the research of better techniques for waste utilisation.

Faced with these challenges, we offer technological solutions capable of facilitating traceability, regulatory compliance and strategic decision-making in a context where environmental protection and the circular economy are key aspects. In addition, we simplify the management process and coordination with external partners.

As a result, we currently work with more than 900 waste management facilities and more than 20,000 waste production points in sectors as diverse as construction, pharma, food and beverage, energy, oil & gas and telco.

What type of benefits does “Zero”, the new software by TEIMAS, provide for the users and enterprises?

As mentioned briefly above, Zero is a cloud-based management platform that allows companies to optimise their waste management, simplify compliance with environmental regulations and speed up the preparation of inspections, audits and sustainability reports.

With Zero, companies have all their waste management information in one place, making it easy to view historical data and create reports. In addition, the platform uses blockchain technology to control the movements of the waste generated, which makes it possible to certify its traceability.

In addition, with its latest update, companies can also receive data from other software applications (used by managers, agents, dealers, etc.), which allows them to streamline procedures and reduce data loading times.

It can also include tariffs for each type of waste or by waste group, which helps companies to better understand and control the associated economic data.

How do you see the market in Turkey?

In Turkey, there are several companies and technological solutions dedicated to waste management that reflect Turkey’s progress towards more efficient and sustainable waste management. This is a market that is experiencing significant growth due to the increasing volume of solid waste in the country.

Turkey is making an effort to move towards efficient and sustainable waste management. According to TurkStat data, industrial waste generation by companies in the country has increased by more than 75% in the last 10 years and treatment and management facilities have also grown, dealing not only with domestic generation but also with a large amount of waste imported from Europe. It is undoubtedly a market of great interest.
