Factory fires must be intervened within 3 minutes at the latest.
Falckon General Manager Anıl Yamaner stated that awareness should be increased regarding factory fires and said, “We must protect our giant industrial establishments that keep the Turkish economy alive from fire disasters. Classical firefighting activities cannot protect these establishments. Especially our exporting industrial establishments must increase their awareness on this issue. Each fire has a different specialization, each type of fire requires its own specific knowledge and skills. Due to the 1500 factory fires that occur in our country every year, more than 250 million Euros are lost in equipment and buildings alone. However, more importantly, in a possible major fire, industrialists may face the danger of losing their foreign markets as well as loss of life and property.”
Falckon General Manager Anıl Yamaner, the first and only industrial fire and fire services provider in Turkey, stated that each fire has a different specialization and said, “Each type of fire requires its own specific knowledge and skills. It is important to have teams with different specializations to be able to fight different fires and to be able to work in a coordinated manner when necessary. Forest fires are fires that cover large areas and spread rapidly. In combating such fires, special equipment and tactics that can move on the field and work in coordination with aircraft are required. In residential fires, ensuring the evacuation of people and preventing the spread of the fire are of primary importance. Municipalities have trained and experienced teams in this field. Industrial fires, on the other hand, are fires that occur in structures such as factories, production facilities and chemical plants. In such fires, it is necessary to consider the substance that causes the fire and the production process and to take the necessary precautions against hazardous chemicals. Teams specialized in this field have special knowledge and skills to control the fire and minimize damage to the facilities.’’ he said.
The biggest risk is the one we are not aware of
Yamaner, who said that interest in industrial firefighting has increased after the increasing number of large factory fires in the world, said that the awareness of Turkish industrialists on this issue has also started to increase in recent years. Yamaner said, ‘’When we started working in this field in 2013, industrialists were saying, ‘How can such a thing happen?’’ Now, many companies reach out to us before we reach them. Because the size of the threat is starting to be understood day by day. News about many companies going bankrupt after fires began to appear frequently in the media. This drew our attention. For example, a company on the SME scale insures its business. After a fire, it arranges the insurance loss. However, large companies may not have such a chance. Because, even if an insurance loss occurs, it can take months or even years for that factory to start operating again. This loss of production also means loss of customers. The moment that business is disconnected from the supply chain, you also lose the future of the company. No insurance company will cover the customers you lose. You lose the future of your company. This is a very common situation after a fire. Therefore, large companies attach importance to this area. Due to the 1500 factory fires that occur in our country every year, there is a loss of over 250 million Euros only in equipment and buildings. However, more importantly, in a possible large fire, industrialists may face the risk of losing their foreign markets as well as the loss of life and property. ” he said.
Life and environmental safety and business continuity
Anıl Yamaner, who drew attention to the fact that industrial fires are most common in the chemical, paper, textile, metal/automotive and plastic sectors, said that risks should be correctly identified and industrial fire service should be received in such institutions. Stating that the main duty of municipal fire departments is to limit the damage to the environment, Yamaner said, “In order to prevent fires, it is of great importance to have an emergency management that monitors possible fire risks within the daily operations of the facilities. The biggest risk is the risk we are not aware of. Here, the professionalism and expertise of emergency response teams come into play. It is essential to have an expert team that is ready at all times for fires that may occur in industrial facilities and knows the facility well. Municipal fire department teams work to first limit the fire for safety reasons and then extinguish it if possible. However, the main duty of industrial firefighters on the campus is to prevent the fire from breaking out, to ensure life and environmental safety and to ensure business continuity. In industrial facilities, you cannot intervene correctly in the first 3 minutes and you cannot extinguish the fire. In this context, we, as Falcon, provide an integrated service for industrial establishments, including firefighting service, fire training and fire consultancy. In order to prevent employees and production from being affected by fires in these facilities, the entire facility is prepared in accordance with international standards. We bring and protect with us. We serve in many leading industrial establishments of Turkey with our more than 400 firefighting teams,” he said.
