Goldwind Expands Local Supply Chain Strategy in Türkiye with Tower Localisation and Planned Blade Manufacturing Facility

NSK
Goldwind has entered a new phase of its supply chain localisation strategy in Türkiye, aimed at increasing the domestic production of wind energy equipment. The company has launched the first stage of its localisation programme by integrating steel towers manufactured in Türkiye by CS Wind into its global supply chain. The initiative is expected to strengthen Türkiye’s local manufacturing capacity and support the development of a higher value-added supply ecosystem for the country’s wind energy industry.
The localisation of tower procurement is regarded as the first step in Goldwind’s long-term manufacturing and supply chain strategy in Türkiye. By expanding cooperation with local manufacturers, the company aims to source a larger share of its wind turbine components from within the country.
Blade Manufacturing Facility on the Agenda
As the second phase of its localisation strategy, Goldwind is planning to establish a wind turbine blade manufacturing facility in Türkiye. Site selection and feasibility studies are currently underway, with the proposed facility expected to occupy an area of more than 125,000 square metres.
Once operational, the project is expected to create more than 700 direct jobs. The facility will initially manufacture blades for Goldwind’s GWH182 wind turbine platform, with a targeted local content ratio of at least 65%.
Türkiye Strengthens Its Position as a Regional Manufacturing Hub
Goldwind’s investment represents more than the construction of a new manufacturing facility. It is a strategic move to deepen the local supply chain for wind energy equipment in Türkiye. Following the localisation of steel tower production, the planned blade manufacturing facility will further increase the domestic content of turbine components while strengthening the country’s industrial production infrastructure.
The company’s approach is designed to combine global supply chain capabilities with local manufacturing capacity, contributing to the advancement of Türkiye’s engineering, manufacturing, and supplier ecosystem within the wind energy sector. The localisation strategy is also expected to expand over time to include additional wind turbine components.
Analysis: A New Milestone for Türkiye’s Wind Industry
Goldwind’s decision to localise steel tower procurement and its plan to establish a blade manufacturing facility should be viewed as more than a single investment project. It signals Türkiye’s transition from an assembly-focused wind energy market toward higher value-added manufacturing of critical turbine components.
Steel towers and blades represent two of the largest cost elements in modern wind turbines. Producing these components locally not only reduces logistics costs and shortens delivery times but also strengthens supply chain resilience and supports the growth of domestic suppliers.
The planned production of blades for the GWH182 platform could stimulate investment and collaboration across a wide range of engineering disciplines, including composite materials manufacturing, mould technologies, structural adhesives, logistics, quality assurance, and testing infrastructure. Beyond the creation of more than 700 direct jobs, the project is also expected to generate substantial indirect employment throughout the supply chain.
Türkiye has emerged as one of Europe’s key manufacturing centres for wind energy equipment in recent years. Continued investment by international turbine manufacturers in local supply chains could further reinforce this position. The target of achieving at least 65% local content reflects not only an expansion in manufacturing capacity but also the strengthening of domestic engineering capabilities and the broader industrial ecosystem.
As the final site selection, investment incentives, and production schedule become clearer, the project’s contribution to Türkiye’s competitiveness in the global wind energy industry is expected to become increasingly evident.
