Energy transition accelerates in buildings of 2,000 square metres and above

Energy efficiency regulations in Türkiye are accelerating the transformation of the construction sector. Since the nearly zero-energy building (nZEB) approach became mandatory on 1 January 2025 for new buildings with a total construction area of 2,000 square metres or more, energy performance and renewable energy use have become key components of new projects.

Under the new requirements, buildings within this scope must achieve an energy performance rating of Class B or higher and meet at least 10 percent of their primary energy demand through renewable energy sources. This transition is also strengthening the role of solar energy systems in the energy infrastructure of new buildings.

Türkiye’s solar energy capacity continues to grow

Solar energy is accounting for an increasingly significant share of Türkiye’s renewable energy transition. According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the country’s total installed electricity capacity reached 126,476 MW by the end of July 2026, with solar energy accounting for 21.7 percent. During the same period, the number of solar power plants in Türkiye rose to 41,458.

Türkiye’s considerable solar energy potential also supports this growth. Ministry data indicate that the country receives an average of 2,741 hours of sunshine annually.

Solar power investments are now considered at the project stage

In next-generation buildings, solar energy systems are no longer treated as standalone investments added after construction. Instead, they are increasingly planned as an integral part of the architectural, structural and electrical design process.

Assessing factors such as roof utilisation, panel placement, structural suitability, DC and AC electrical infrastructure, inverter selection, energy storage capacity, energy management and electric vehicle charging infrastructure at an early stage helps ensure a smoother installation process and improved system performance.

Designing solar power systems in line with a building’s consumption profile is particularly important for commercial buildings, industrial facilities, hotels, residential developments and other large-scale properties, both in terms of technical performance and economic efficiency.

Solarzirve develops project-based energy solutions

Established under Adoba Global in 2024, Solarzirve develops project-based, turnkey solutions for Türkiye’s growing renewable energy and energy technology market.

The company designs solar energy systems tailored to the requirements of buildings of various scales, including homes, villas, tiny houses, workplaces, commercial properties, hotels and industrial facilities. Alongside solar panels and inverters, it incorporates energy storage, electric vehicle charging and energy management systems into its projects.

Solarzirve’s approach does not view a solar power investment as merely the installation of panels and inverters. The building’s energy consumption, roof or site conditions, existing electrical infrastructure, targeted generation capacity, storage requirements and potential future consumption are assessed together to develop a project-specific system.

Solar energy and storage systems are becoming integrated

The new phase of solar energy investment is not limited to electricity generation. Matching generation with consumption patterns, storing surplus electricity in batteries and using energy as efficiently as possible are becoming increasingly important considerations in investment decisions.

By incorporating energy storage systems into its solar projects, Solarzirve aims to develop energy infrastructures in which generation, consumption and storage are managed together.

This approach is particularly relevant for businesses, commercial buildings, hotels and industrial facilities whose energy consumption is distributed across different hours of the day. Storage systems allow solar electricity generated during daylight hours to be used when production declines or stops, providing greater flexibility in energy management.

Demand for turnkey solutions is increasing

Changing investor expectations are also transforming service models in the solar energy sector. Turnkey solutions that bring site assessment, project design, engineering, product selection, installation, commissioning and technical support under a single provider are becoming increasingly prominent.

Solarzirve aims to offer an integrated service model covering every stage from the initial project assessment to system commissioning. By combining solar energy, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and energy management solutions within the same project, the company develops sustainable and scalable systems tailored to buildings’ long-term energy needs.

The energy infrastructure of future buildings is evolving

New building regulations, rising energy costs and the expansion of Türkiye’s renewable energy capacity are increasing the importance of energy investments in the construction sector.

In the coming period, buildings with high energy efficiency, the ability to generate part of their electricity from renewable sources, energy storage capacity and electric vehicle charging infrastructure are expected to become more widespread.

By bringing together solar energy, energy storage, energy management and electric vehicle charging technologies, Solarzirve aims to contribute to the energy transition of the construction sector and Türkiye’s sustainable energy objectives.
