Blackmon Power Accelerates Equipment Monitoring with Flir i65 and Condoit Application

Blackmon Power & Flir i65
Charlotte-based testing firm reduces reporting time from 12 hours to 5 minutes through connected, cloud-based workflow.
By integrating Flir’s next-generation i65 thermal imaging camera with the Condoit electrical data platform, the company has achieved a fundamental transformation in equipment monitoring and reporting processes. The result has been accelerated workflows, reduced errors, and enhanced decision-making capabilities for clients. Process duration has decreased from 8-12 hours to under 5 minutes.
Modernizing Manual Processes
Until recently, Blackmon Power technicians used the time-consuming traditional method common across the industry: capturing thermal images, storing them on SD cards, transferring data to spreadsheets upon returning to the office, and manually generating reports.
Project Manager Tyler Grant from Blackmon Power recalls, “The biggest time loss was always in the backend reporting process. We knew that a more advanced thermal camera and data application could save both us and our clients time and money.”
Even reporting a small inspection of 10-15 components took two hours. Large jobs could require a full workday. In some projects, reporting alone accounted for up to 30% of total job time, reducing profit margins and slowing response times.
The Flir + Condoit Advantage
The solution came with Flir’s next-generation thermal camera i65 from the iXX Series and the cloud-based electrical data platform Condoit.
The i65 combines infrared imaging with smartphone-like functionality, while Condoit offers automatic single-line diagram generation, NFPA 70B-compliant maintenance workflows, and a customer visibility portal. Together, they enable real-time data capture, instant cloud synchronization, and automated reporting—an experience far removed from spreadsheets and manual uploads.
Testing Ground: Kings Mountain Data Center
Blackmon Power tested the new workflow at the Kings Mountain Data Center Campus for T5 Data Centers. This flagship facility has a capacity of 60 MW and is described as Carolina’s only “FOREVER ON” data center. Phase I delivery of the project is scheduled for 2026.
Technicians scanned electrical distribution equipment using the i65, identifying temperature anomalies that could indicate loose connections or faulty equipment. Each scan took just 15-20 seconds, with data automatically uploaded to the cloud.
Previously, reporting could consume half of a technician’s time. Now, with the Flir-Condoit platform, this figure approaches zero.
Tyler states: “Using the i65 and Condoit application is a real revolution. I’ve been doing this job for over a decade, and it’s never been this easy. Reporting has now moved from the office to the field. What used to take 12 hours now takes 5 minutes.”
Double the Speed, Real-Time Collaboration
The Condoit integration connects wirelessly with most Flir cameras, doubling the speed of traditional thermography workflows. There’s no manual image sorting or software switching; everything synchronizes instantly to the cloud.
Field teams and office engineers can collaborate in real time, while customers gain secure access to their data through Condoit’s online portal. For clients like T5 that manage multiple facilities, this centralized visibility makes monitoring electrical system health across entire property portfolios easier.
Closing the Skills Gap
In an environment where approximately 60% of inspection teams report a shortage of qualified thermographers, the platform’s guided workflows help less experienced technicians perform expert-level inspections. Blackmon Power can now collect baseline data for all components without passing on extra costs to customers.
Tyler explains: “Previously, collecting non-problematic data was too expensive for most clients. Now it’s simple and fast. Since field technicians can input data in real time, errors have decreased significantly.”
Setting a New Standard
For Blackmon Power, the impact isn’t just about speed. The integrated platform improves data accuracy, enhances transparency through customer portals, and establishes a new standard for reporting quality.
Tyler concludes: “The Flir i65/Condoit platform puts our team light years ahead of the competition. It’s cleaner, faster, and better for our customers, with excellent backend reporting. Moreover, with the i65, we don’t need a separate smartphone or digital camera. This is going to transform our business for years to come.”
