First energy storage system to be integrated into Turkey’s largest RES was signed

On the last day of 2023, Partner EGS and Polat Enerji signed an agreement for an energy storage system with a capacity of 4MW-4MWh to be used in the Soma RES project, which will include many firsts. At the signing ceremony held on Friday, December 29, Partner EGS CEO Dr. Alper Terciyanlı, Polat Enerji Board Member Neşet Özgür Cireli and Soma Enerji Board Member Aslı Kehale Altunyuva were present.

The energy storage system to be integrated into Soma RES, Turkey’s largest wind power plant (RES) project, will contribute to grid flexibility while reducing imbalance costs and maximizing production. In this project, which will be the first application in which the energy storage system will be integrated into a licensed wind energy power plant, the energy storage systems will be supplied by Huawei, the solution partner of Partner EGS.

Polat Energy will continue to invest in technology and innovations

Pointing out that they are Turkey’s largest company in terms of installed wind power and the largest RES operator, Polat Enerji Board Member Neşet Özgür Cireli said: “We are proud to have broken many firsts in the sector so far. Today, we came together again to break new ground. We will commission our country’s first grid-scale storage system at Soma RES, Turkey’s largest wind power plant. The signatures we have signed also indicate our determination to implement Turkey’s first storage RES. “We will continue to invest in technology, innovate and break new ground,” he said.

Stating that Polat Enerji has been operating in the field of renewable energy for more than 20 years, Neşet Özgür Cireli said, “We produce approximately 2 billion kWh of electricity annually with the wind and solar power plants we have established. “Thus, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 1.25 million tons per year, equivalent to planting 50 million trees, and cover the electrical energy consumption of approximately 610 thousand people.”
