Underlining that Turkey has determined new strategies in the field of energy and that 132 billion dollars worth of energy imports have been prevented and 890 million tons of carbon emission reduction has been achieved with the investments made especially in the last 10 years, Zafer Demircan noted the following: One of the issues we apply while creating our new strategies is to diversify significantly. The system integration of domestic and renewable resources should be maximized and while doing this, the infrastructure, transmission and distribution networks should be strengthened and modernized. We are also bringing up the issues of Turkey becoming a regional energy center in energy, and we will provide these as well. We plan to carry out GES RES YEKAs in January and February. We have also completed the law studies regarding the shortening of the permit processes related to renewable resources to a great extent. As long as we increase the integration of renewables, the need for you will increase even more because the system must definitely store the excess energy at certain times and provide the availability to use it when needed, it is important to increase the storage capabilities of the system.”

Tokcan: We can be a ‘regional base’ in Energy Storage!

Another person who spoke at the opening of the congress, EDEDER President Can Tokcan, said, “For many years, Turkey has been making serious efforts to become a ‘regional hub’ in different areas of energy. With the experiences we have gained as a country, our ability to act quickly, the determined public will, our trained human resources, our technical capabilities and our innovative vision that complements all of these, we believe that these efforts can be achieved in the field of ‘energy storage’ and that Turkey will quickly become one of the leading technology producers.” “If we consider that all of the pre-license applications for storage, which are close to 33 gigawatt hours, have been turned into investments, we are talking about an investment size of over 10 billion dollars for Storage Production Facilities and over 30 billion dollars together with the renewable power plants it is associated with,” said Tokcan, adding, “We believe that the operation of the Energy Storage Systems to be established as well as how the 214 million kg of minerals associated with batteries waiting to be reused within our borders at the end of their operational lives will be evaluated are among the most important issues that need to be discussed.”

Great Interest in the Congress

Although it was organized for the first time this year, the “Future Energy and Storage Congress”, which has more than two thousand sector professionals registered, “hosts 7 separate sessions where the subject of energy storage will be addressed under different headings such as policy and regulations, energy management, financing, latest technologies, circular economy, storage sector stakeholders and localization.
